Artist Statement
My work is my life. My paintings are a personal sequence of episodes; segments; moments that are otherwise ordinary and could pass by unnoticed. The canvas gives me the chance to examine them. People, emotions and objects that I’ve experienced and explored in my own journeys are analyzed through my work. A sculpture, a fragment of architecture, a person glimpsed on the street.
I seek to give a new identity to an everyday object. To capture its energy through the palette of colours, the application of brushstrokes.
Common scenes and familiar icons transcend the boundaries of language… creating images that can be universally accessible; that hint at the enduring quality of humanity. A summation of human achievement in a singular perspective.
I try not to sway the viewer in any direction. That which is glimpsed in passing can unlock reflections on the viewer’s past; create an opportunity to examine what is seen and unseen and remembered, and how they relate.
